on Financial Services Modernization Bill

WASHINGTON - House Rules Committee Chairman David Dreier (R-CA) announced the Rules Committee will meet during the week of June 28th to grant a rule on H.R. 10, the "Financial Services Act of 1999." The bill was reported by the Committee on Banking and Financial Services on March 23, 1999 and by the Committee on Commerce on June 15, 1999.

Chairman Dreier indicated on the House Floor today that any Members contemplating amendments should submit 55 copies of the amendment and a brief explanation to the Rules Committee in H-312 of the Capitol no later than Tuesday, June 29 at 3 p.m.

"Next week, the Rules Committee will meet to develop the procedures for the House to take up financial services modernization," Dreier said. "I want to commend Chairman Jim Leach of the House Banking Committee, and Chairman Tom Bliley of the House Commerce Committee, for their leadership and hard work on H.R. 10. It is a well crafted, balanced bill that will modernize America's financial system and help us keep our preeminent position in the global marketplace."
