Dreier Praises House Passage of Modern Rules Package

WASHINGTON - Congressman David Dreier (R-CA), Chairman of the House Rules Committee, today issued the following statement following House passage of its new Rules for the 106th Congress:

  • “The rules of the House should be understandable to the American people.
  • “I’m pleased the House today approved a modern rules package for the 106th Congress designed to improve public access and understanding of the legislative process.
  • “The old rules were too complex, outdated and confusing.
  • “Along with expanding internet opportunities for legislative information, the recodification of the House Rules will make it much easier for the public to follow legislation, learn about the public policy issues before Congress and become active citizens in their government.
  • “I want to thank my colleagues on the House Rules Committee who worked so hard on the bipartisan task force charged with revamping the rules, particularly the Ranking Member, Mr. Moakley.
  • “Republicans will move forward in the 106th Congress, working to build consensus with the Democrats on the issues important to the American people.”
