Majority Amendment Process Announcement: H.R. 1173
Dear Colleague:
The Committee on Rules may meet the week of January 23rd to grant a rule that could limit the amendment process for floor consideration of H.R. 1173, the Fiscal Responsibility and Retirement Security Act of 2011.
Any Member wishing to offer an amendment must submit an electronic copy of the amendment and description via the Rules Committee’s website. Members must also submit 30 hard copies of the amendment, one copy of a brief explanation of the amendment, and an amendment login form to the Rules Committee in room H-312 of the Capitol by 4 p.m. on Monday, January 23, 2012. Both electronic and hard copies must be received by the date and time specified.
Members should draft their amendments to the Rules Committee Print 112-8 dated January 18, 2012, which is posted on the Rules Committee website. The Rules Committee Print combines the text of H.R. 1173, reported by the Committee on Energy and Commerce and the Committee on Ways and Means.
Members should use the Office of Legislative Counsel to ensure that their amendments are drafted in the most appropriate format. Members should also check with the Office of the Parliamentarian, the Committee on the Budget, and the Congressional Budget Office to be certain their amendments comply with the rules of the House and the Congressional Budget Act. If you have any questions, please contact myself or Lydia Calio of the Committee staff at extension 5-9191.
Sincerely,
DAVID DREIER
